In conversation with Julia from ‘House of Comil’

Let us introduce you to the LA based blogger’Julia, from The House of Comil. Julia was raised in France and has lived in Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland before settling in Los Angeles with her husband Nicolas

Style Counsel: Who is your style Icon?

Julia Comil: I have so many. I love different styles from different periods.

  • Current style icons: Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Chiara Ferragni
  • 60’s and 70’s style icons: Audrey Hepburn, Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot

SC: What trend are you loving this season?

JC: Ruffles, Stripes: (banker stripes, Seaside stripes), Gingham print and detailed shoulders.

SC: How would you describe your own personal style??

JC: My style is effortless chic with an edge. Fitting and cut are super important to me and I love to bring textures to an outfit or wearing prints.

SC: What do you think will be the big hits fashion wise for next season?

JC: Actually, I did a special post on my blog regarding my Fashion Week coverage for Fall 2017. To be stylish next season, we will need to mix and match trends: such as mixing metallic fabrics with faux fur or velvet with lace, embellished skirts with see-through fabric, etc. Next season will be bold!

SC: Where do you tend to buy your clothes, and why?

JC: I love the French brands: Maje, Iro and Sandro. The style is effortless chic but never boring. Maje is my favourite brand because the cut is perfect for women that are petite like me.
I also love Pinko: it is an Italian brand and their pants are so stylish and fit me so well!
I shop a lot online too on Shopbop, Farfetch and Revolve: they have an amazing selection of styles and brands. I love Everlane for basics and Sezane for an effortlessly chic style. I also go regularly to Zara, Topshop, & Other Stories: they always have the latest trends!

SC: What fashion blogs do you follow?

JC: I read so many blogs, but the ones I read on a regular basis are The Chriselle Factor, Thrifts and Threads, The Ambitionista, The Skinny Confidential, Sincerely Jules, The Blonde Salad and Song of Style.

SC: Do you listen to music when you are getting ready? If yes, what’s your favourite playlist on Spotify?

JC: I use Pandora! I love to listen to Capital Cities, Hotel Costes and Marian Hill

SC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

JC: I would love to have my own online store or lifestyle brand!

SC: What are your home comforts?

JC: My coffee machine! Each time I move, this is the first thing I buy or I bring with me! I am also obsessed with everything from West Elm!

SC: Trainers, what are your favourite?

JC: I love watching the youtube videos of Tracy Anderson, Boho Beautiful and the video of Celebrities trainers on Pop Sugar.

SC: What do you find are the top questions your followers tend to ask you most?

JC: My followers ask me a lot of questions regarding how to style black but they also love to know if I like a place or event I went to or if I recommend to shop at a certain online store.

SC: Pretend you’ve agreed to participate in Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls. You’ve been told that you are only allowed to bring 5 items of clothing (including shoes and swimwear) and 3 beauty products what would you bring?

JC:

  • Clothing items: One pair of wedge heels, one swimwear from Triangl, a light vintage wash pair of jeans from AG Jeans, one white tee from Everlane or Sezane and a black dress from Maje
  • Beauty products: my light Argan oil from Josie Maran, my mascara from Tarte Cosmetics (I wear it everyday) and Bioderma micellar water to wash my face.

SC: Where can people find you?

JC: In Venice on Abbot Kinney: doing on of the three:

  • Eating at a cute lunch place,
  • Doing a photo shoot, or
  • Shopping!
